Dance Report: Milwaukie Country Dance,
Milwaukie Community Center was overflowing with dancers on Feb 27th. About 100 people came to kick up their heels. Lots of new people joined the regulars. Click on Dance 2010 to see the latest photos from that dance. Many people came up during and after the dance to ask if we would add a second country dance each month. What do you think?
Both Kevin and I were surprised at how fast we learned the schottische dance. Thanks to Tim and Cheri, what looked hard became easier. Believe it or not, after all of these years Kevin finally learned it.
If you are interested in helping organize our upcoming formal/semi-formal dance in May, please meet with us at 6PM on Saturday March 13th (the next Tigard dance) This is your dance, so we encourage your input and suggestions.
Your Prayers Needed-Please pray for Alice and Darrel. Darrel fell off a ladder this week while cutting a limb. He is being treated for severe injuries and fractures.

Kevin's Corner
Hi, The following appeared in Portlanddancing.com. Bryce brought it to our attention. It was written by Martin Roe and is an excellent discription of dance. At the next dance, try to fit this idea into your dancing.
Kevin.
"You've seen them. They never had a lesson, yet they dance so beautifully with that air of confidence we all wish to have. I'm sure most of them don't understand what makes it sooo easy for them. "Just a natural dancer", they'd say, and we'd believe.
Well, I didn't understand either until November 27, 1976 (and I had been a dance teacher for 30 years). At a party on Saturday night of November 27, 1976, I witnessed one of those easy, relaxed, confident dancers teach a little girl to waltz. She, the dancer, simply said "JUST STEP ON BEAT, AND GO WHERE HE PUSHES YOU". It hit me like a ton of bricks.
Then I realized that THEY DON'T DO STEPS?THEY DO RHYTHMS. They start the rhythm with their feet first and then let their body move in the direction they wish to go. If they want to move forward, they just keep doing the RHYTHM and drift forward, or they can drift backward, turn right, or turn left. It's so simple that it's ridiculous for any of us to have learned the other way."

About our staff:
CCMfriends' Co-directors are Kevin & Sheryll Fong of Beaverton. Kevin & Sheryll met at a CCMfriends dance in 2003. They stepped into their new roles as co-directors in October 2009.
CCMfriends' Volunteer Coordinators are Dan and Jenni Barrett of Canby, who also originally met at a CCMfriends dance.
CCMfriends is supported by a committed crew of volunteers who devote anywhere from an hour a month to 20 hours a week of their own free time to the cause. Thank God for volunteers!
